Online banking for a Georgian bank, on the web and in a mobile app

ProCredit Bank Georgia wanted its customers to do everything online. We researched with its staff and customers, designed the web and mobile banking, built the web front end and the iOS and Android apps, tested them and ran the project. The bank's own team built the back end and the API.

The situation

ProCredit Bank Georgia belongs to the ProCredit Group and lends mainly to small and medium-sized businesses with long-term plans. It also encourages saving among the general public.

The bank wanted to become entirely digital: take work off its branches and contact center, let customers register for new services online, and leave staff more time for financial advice. Every existing feature had to become easier to find and use, on the web and on a phone.

What we did

We began with research, together with the bank's team: an on-site workshop with its staff, in-depth interviews with its customers and usability tests of journeys such as applying for a loan and following its progress. The goals that came out of it were flexibility and personalization, control over finances, consistency between web and mobile, relevant support at each step, security, and awareness of new services.

Design and build then ran in parallel, with one rule: the API and front end of a module did not start until its design was delivered. The bank's own team built the back end and the API; we designed and built everything the customer sees.

On the web, a dashboard puts the main actions on one screen. Fast-access navigation follows what a customer uses most, and a Favorites section lets the customer arrange the menu. In the mobile app, customers can open an account with video identification, without a visit to a branch. We designed and built a My finances section from scratch, which shows income, expenses and statistics in several forms on the web and on mobile. Sign-in moved from username and password to a short passcode, or fingerprint or face recognition where the phone has it.

We designed the UX and UI of the web and the mobile banking, on a new design system that both platforms share. The web banking front end is React; the iOS and Android apps are React Native. We also ran QA and testing, and managed the project and its delivery process.

The result

Customers transfer money, sign in and block a lost card faster.

Project goals based on research and interviews results

1

Flexibility and personalization

Users have a wide range of requirements and habits. The new tool needed to allow users to set the interface according to their needs.

2

Control

Most users would like to have more control over their finances. It was essential to consider how the tool would best help users get this control.

3

Consistency

Many customers use mobile and web versions, so we had to ensure that the user experience was consistent. We wanted users to switch between devices without getting disoriented.

4

Relevant support

Make sure we give users all requested information at on each step of the flow. We wanted a good balance that provided everything needed while not overloading the user.

5

Security

ProCredit maintains high standards for security, so the new experience should build on this reputation and support security innovations.

6

Awareness

Keep users updated about new features and services offered by ProCredit. Users should always know how to solve problems via online banking.

Web banking

The Dashboard

All main actions are now on one screen, with full access to special topics with personalized navigation. Users can review and manage their accounts. As most users use a wide range of features on an everyday basis we needed to consolidate all data on one screen to give users an overview on one page.

Previously the log-in page was represented by “Username” and “Password”. To make the process easier yet secure, we developed the functionality of adding a passcode with four digits or Touch/Face ID depending on the operating system – iOS or Android and the possibility of a smartphone.
